
For the second time within a fortnight, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore are said to have felt tremors on Saturday around 5: 9 magnitude earthquake that shook the Afghanistan – Tajikistan border region.
As per PMD (Pakistan Meteorological Department), the earthquake occurred around 11:48 am and registered 5.9 on the Richter Scale.

The epicenter of the earthquake was set to Afghanistan- Tajikistan border at 94 kilometers’ depth.
However, according to German Research Centre for Geosciences GFZ, the earthquake was 5.8 in magnitude and 92 km depth. United States Geological Survey placed the quake‘s magnitude at 5.7 and depth 94 km.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi said that several districts included in KP felt the jolt. Fortunately, there was no loss in life or damage reported.
People were observed rushing out of buildings as the tremors were felt in Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Nowshera, Peshawar and Swabi districts as reported by Dawn.com.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of Pakistan Disaster Management Authority und while analyzing the first reports PDMA report stated that Gujrat and Faisalabad along with Lahore also claimed to experience the jolts.”The administrators in all the districts of Punjab are checking building,” quoted the PDMA Director.
